GMDSS GENERAL OPERATORS CERTIFICATE (GOC) CoC

This course (IMO Model Course 1.25) aims to meet the Radio Regulations 2012, Section A-IV/2 of the STCW Code, and Maltese Radio Communications Regulations (SUBSIDIARY LEGISLATION 399.35). 

The course covers the training recommendations in annex 3 to the IMO Assembly resolution A.703(17).

Recommendation on Training of Radio Operators related to the General Operator’s Certificate (GOC).

Statutory and Regulatory requirements

-Subsidiary Legislation 399.35 Of Maltese Radiocommunications (Certificates of Operators) Regulations

On successful completion of the training and assessment, trainees will learn;
-search and rescue radiocommunications, including procedures in the International Aeronautical and Maritime Search and Rescue Manual (IAMSAR).
-to prevent the transmission of false distress alerts and the procedures to mitigate the effects of such alerts.
-ship reporting systems.
-radio medical services.
-to use the International Code of Signals and the Standard Marine Communication Phrases.
-the English language, both written and spoken, for the communication of information relevant to the safety of life at sea.
-the provision of radio services in emergencies.
-Preventive measures for the safety of ship and personnel in connection with hazards related to radio equipment, including electrical and non-ionizing radiation hazards.
-periodically checks and tests for GMDSS devices and installations.
-miscellaneous skills and operational procedures for general communications.
