STCW BASIC SAFETY TRAINING CERTIFICATE

The STCW Basic Safety Training (BST) Certificate is the internationally recognised entry-level qualification required for individuals seeking employment in the commercial maritime and superyacht industries.

Approved and issued by the Republic of the Marshall Islands, this six-day course complies with the requirements of Sections A-VI/1-1, A-VI/1-2, A-VI/1-3, A-VI/1-4, and A-VI/6 of the International STCW Code.

This essential maritime safety training provides participants with the knowledge and practical skills required to respond effectively to emergencies at sea, including survival techniques, firefighting procedures, first aid response, and maritime security awareness.

Modules Covered

• Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities: Develop an understanding of safe working practices onboard, effective communication, teamwork, and accident prevention procedures.
• Personal Survival Techniques: Learn essential sea survival skills, including emergency evacuation procedures, survival equipment, and life raft deployment drills.
• Basic Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting: Gain practical experience in fire prevention methods, firefighting equipment, and emergency response techniques, including firefighting in low-visibility conditions.
• Elementary First Aid (EFA): Learn the fundamentals of first aid and how to provide immediate medical assistance for common injuries and emergencies onboard.
• Security Awareness: Understand maritime security responsibilities, identify potential threats, and learn how to respond to security-related situations at sea.

Eligibility Requirements

• To enrol in the STCW Basic Safety Training course, applicants must:
• Be at least 18 years of age 
• No previous maritime experience is required.

Assessment

• Students must successfully complete:
• 5 written examinations 
• 2 practical assessments

Successful completion of all assessments is required to receive the STCW Basic Safety Training Certificate.
