This is a recreational certificate of competency to command sailing and/or power vessels up to 24 meters in length up to 150 nm offshore.
It is a comprehensive theory and lives aboard course consisting of five days of classroom theory and a practical component of six days for sail or five days for power including the practical on-the-water examination.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
-Must be at least 18 years of age
-A VHF Radio Operators Certificate, OR,
-Must take the full IYT VHF-SRC Marine Communications course
-50 days at sea as an active crew member. (a day = 24 hours)
-To have logged 3.000 nautical miles at sea (power or sail)
-30 hours on watch at night underway as an active crew member/including at least 6 hours during nighttime where they served as the vessel's captain or watch leader
-Successful completion of a medical and color blindness eyesight examination is mandatory
EXAMS
1 written
1 oral and practical test on board a yacht
* Minimum sea time must have been met before the final examination.
*It is recommended that candidates also hold STCW Basic Training Certificates.
